TTCL ACCOUNTANT ACCUSE (DEFENDANT) IN THE COURT FOR 95 MISTAKE FRAUD


A payroll accountant with the Tanzania Telecommunication Company Limited (TTCL), Hamida Abbas Masoli yesterday was arraigned before Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam charged with 95 counts related to fraud and occasioning loss of 71m/- to the government.

The charge sheet against her included a total of 95 counts; 44 related to using misleading documents, 49 related to theft by clerks and servants, one involving occasioning loss to a specified authority and one of embezzlement and misappropriation.

The occasioning loss charge to the accused falls under Economic and Organised Crime Control Act.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) filed the consent that allows Kisutu court to hear the case whereby the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and she is out on bail after meeting the bail conditions.

Presiding Principal Resident Magistrate, Respicious Mwijage set the bail conditions to the accused and ordered her to secure two reliable sureties from the government or any recognised institution who would sign a bond of 20m/- each.

The case was adjourned until November 8, this year when it comes up for mention as the investigation has not been completed according to the prosecution led by State Attorney from Prevention and Combating Corruption Bureau ( PCCB) Denis Lekayo.

Among the allegations was that between 1 July and 31 December 2011 at TTCL head office within Ilala District, the accused being employee of the TTCL dishonesty, misappropriated for her own use 70,469,407/- which was entrusted to her as a public official.

It was further alleged that on between 1 May 2007 and 30 November 2011 at the said office the accused Masoli by her willful acts caused TTCL to suffer a pecuniary loss of 71,769,407/-Another allegation is that between 2007 and 2011 at TTCL head office in Dar es Salaam she committed the offence.

It was alleged that Msoli knowingly, with intent to defraud used payments vouchers of different dates and year containing false particulars for the purpose of showing that the inflated different amounts of vouchers were meant to be for salaries for the TTCL employees.

The accused did so while she knew the facts to be false and was intended to mislead the principal.

Msoli is also charged with theft and alleged to commit the offence between 2007 and 2011 at TTCL head office.

State Attorney Lekayo alleged that on the material day the accused stole a total of 71,769,407/- the property of TTCL which came into her possession by virtue of her employment.
