The firm intends to enable the
country’s best ICT students further their studies to widen the base for future
ICT expertise self-sufficiency.
Huawei (T) Managing Director, Bruce
Zhang told Habari Tanzania that that the firm handed over Sh220m to help
students in higher learning institutions to benefit from the programme in the
current financial year.
The funds were received by the
Minister for Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training,Prof. Joyce
Ndalichako.
“Seeds for the future program in
Tanzania aim to develop local ICT talents, enhance knowledge transfer and
promote greater understanding of ICT and interest in the communication sector,”
he elaborated.
Among other issues, the programme
seeks to diminish the mismatch between talent supply and demand which hinders
progress in the sector and creates social problems for talents lacking
training.
As a long-term investor and
responsible corporate citizen in the country, the company wishes to see a
well-developed ICT infrastructure by sponsoring studies both locally and in
China, he said.
Minister Prof. Ndalichako
acknowledged the breadth of the Huawei initiative, saying the program would
help to transfer ICT knowledge to more Tanzanian nationals.
Huawei, an international firm
connects more than three billion people in over 170 countries, having more than
1500 reliable networks, the director added.
